The Corner House are finalists in the Newcomer catagory in the Celebration of Sussex Life Awards

Our place in Sussex is something we’re so proud of here at The Corner House, so we were thrilled when we were announced as finalists in the Celebration of Sussex Life 2016 Awards in the Newcomer catagory.

So many fantastic Sussex businesses are in the final alongside us, all very much deserving of recognition.

As ever, we’re blown away by such positive response to our relatively new traditional pub, and we’re over the moon to be a finalist. Voting has now closed, and the ceremony will be taking place at the Hilton Brighton Metropole on 6 October.

Reggae Night in Worthing

The Reggae Doctors host Repeat Prescription, a fantastic reggae night in Worthing

We recently welcomed The Reggae Doctors to The Corner House for the second time this year for a bank holiday extravaganza we won’t forget in a hurry.

The Reggae Doctors put on the best reggae parties on the south coast, playing everything from rocksteady, ska, dub, calypso rub-a-dub and reggae mashup. Their May bank holiday visit was a complete success, so having them at The Corner House for an August event gave us another great opportunity to throw a spectacular reggae night in Worthing.

To compliment the music, we halted roasts for the Sunday and instead served a delicious barbecue. We even saved people heading indoors for drinks by building a bar in the garden! Our garden came alive with people enjoying good beats, delicious food, and, of course, Red Stripe Jamaican lager.

The weather didn’t play ball as much as we’d hoped, but that didn’t stop the afternoon and the evening being an absolute success. We hope to see The Reggae Doctors again in the future for another Repeat Prescription!

The History of The Corner House

New Beers at The Corner House

new beers at The Corner HouseThere’s some brand new beers at The Corner House – try them for yourselves

The first of the new beers at The Corner House is a gold coloured ale from our friends at Burning Sky Brewery just up the road in East Sussex. This peach, pine & resinous flavoured beer is perfect at any time of the day – we recommend that you enjoy it in our garden.

Our other new range of beers comes from a little further afield – Belgium! Vedett, a luxury pilsner lager, is an arm of the Duvel Moortgat Brewery, and was relaunched in 2003 having been in production since the 1940’s. Known for being excellent thirst quenchers, these lagers boast hints of fruit and vanilla. They’re good with mushrooms, asparagus, noodles, and rice dishes! These are definitely a must-try at The Corner House – we think you’ll find them very moreish too!

We’re open 7 days a week this summer, so whenever you fancy popping down, taking a seat in our garden and enjoying one of these tasty new beers, we’ll be ready and waiting! We hope to see you soon…

Gardening up a Storm in Worthing

storm in WorthingLocal organisation Storm have been working hard outside The Corner House

Our little ‘corner’ of Worthing has undergone quite a transformation in the last year – we’ve spruced up our historic building, made our indoor space into the cosiest bar in Worthing, and created a garden that can be enjoyed all year round. But what about outside our walls? That’s where Storm have come in, and we were very pleased to find out that their mission was to give the flowerbeds outside The Corner House a little bit of TLC.

storm in worthingStorm is a registered charity and voluntary group that have been established for 20 years, and work with children and young people in the local area. Their garden team work alongside Worthing Council, and are involved with various areas of prettiness around Worthing. We were so excited about the prospect of greenery and colour around our beloved building, that we donated some plants to the cause, and the results of their hard work are just stunning.

Of course, this splash of beauty outside is best enjoyed in person, so pop down to The Corner House and see it for yourself. A big well done to Storm in Worthing for all their hard work!

Draught Cyder at The Corner House

Brand new draught cyder at The Corner House

draught cyderAs much as we love beer at The Corner House, we love our cyder too, and it’s getting to the time of year where there’s not much better than sitting in the sun with a glass – and our brand new draught cyder is just in time!

The draught cyder, made by Aspall in Suffolk, is fruity and thirst quenching, perfect for summer months. If you like a drink with your meal and fancy a cyder, this one is best served with curries, chicken, and bramley apple pie!

Aspall themselves were established in 1728 by Clement Chevallier, who planted orchards at Aspall Hall in Suffolk, in the tiny hamlet of Aspall, north of the small market town of Debenham. The Chevallier family still live and work among the orchards today, making them the 8th generation of the family to run Aspall. They add Champagne yeast to all of their fermentations to efficiently ferment sugar to alcohol, and ensure all the natural aroma and flavour of the apple shines through. This makes for a real traditional cider – and it’s quickly become one of our favourites at The Corner House.

Pop in and try and glass of our new draught cyder – our sunny garden is ready and waiting too!

13043364_1009306522498180_3597211866593553667_n Pub roasts in Worthing are still very popular

Roast dinners have always been something we’ve put a big emphasis on at The Corner House, and thanks to our passion for quality home cooked food, we’ve been rewarded with countless reviews rating our pub roasts as the best in Worthing.

A good roast consists of quality meat, lots of veg, and of course, the crowning glory, the Yorkshire pudding. With this in mind, every Sunday we offer pub roasts in Worthing that we’re proud of, and we’re pleased to say that diners are very happy too! ‘One of the best I have had out in at least a year’ said one customer on Tripadvisor, with another claiming our Yorkshires to be ‘the biggest she’d ever seen’. High praise indeed!

Of course, one of the most important element of offering pub roasts in Worthing in making sure we cater for vegetarians too. We find our vegetarian strudel to be very popular of a Sunday afternoon, and it comes with all the trimmings you’d expect with a roast. The child’s roast caters for small appetites, and our pub is dog friendly – the whole family can come!

We’re proud to be offering traditional pub roasts in Worthing, and our Sunday Menu is available from 12-4pm. The popularity of our food means we get very busy, and it’s advisable to book to avoid disappointment – call us on 01903 216463 to book a table. You can view all our reviews on TripAdvisor here.
